Congratulations Seyma – Soon to be Au.D.!

As I approach the end of my externship rotation at JHBI, I want to share my experiences and express my gratitude to the incredible team here. This year has been both challenging and rewarding, filled with extensive learning and personal growth.

JHBI offers a comprehensive range of services, including diagnostic evaluations, balance testing, implantable devices, amplification, and tinnitus management, and I have learned a lot during my time at here.

The team at JHBI is not only highly skilled but also incredibly caring and supportive. Whether it was clinical experiences or research projects, my supervisors were always there to guide and assist me. Additionally, I am also greatful to Dr. Kelley, my supervisor, whose support and guidance were instrumental in conducting our case study. This study was honored as one of the 10 nominees for the prestigious James and Susan Jerger Awards for Excellence in Student Research by the American Academy of Audiology Foundation (AAAF). Presenting our case study at the AAA in Atlanta was a remarkable experience, allowing me to connect with professionals in the audiology field.

I am deeply grateful to the entire JHBI team for teaching me the best practices in audiology and professionalism. Your dedication to my growth has been incredibly helpful. Besides all these learning opportunities, I also enjoyed the wonderful birthday celebrations, Thanksgiving events, Christmas gift exchanges, and many other fun moments we shared. Thank you for making my time here both educational and enjoyable.

I recently graduated from Gallaudet University in Washington, DC, and have accepted a job position in Humble, Texas, where I will begin my professional career this summer. My long-term goal is to become an audiologist  who practices in diversity, inclusion, and equity. I am passionate about creating a more inclusive environment for underrepresented minorities, women, and socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals. Additionally, I have a strong interest in audiology research and aspire to complete my Ph.D. in the future.

Thank you, JHBI, for an incredible externship experience and for supporting my growth as a future audiologist. A special thank you goes to the audiology department. Their unwavering support, patience, and encouragement have been instrumental in helping me grow both personally and professionally. They have given me the confidence I needed to succeed, and for that, I will always be grateful.
